But the registration fee may not be the biggest cost. For many founders, the bigger first-year decisions are the business address, accounting and tax setup, banking, and whether the company also needs a work-permit or import-export structure.
So the better question is: “What will it cost to set up a company that can actually operate?”
QUICK ANSWER
For a straightforward case, Future Compass professional service fees may begin with company registration from RMB 3,800 and accounting from RMB 3,600/year. The real first-year budget can be higher once the business address, tax status, banking, work-permit needs, import-export functions and third-party costs are included.

1. Company Registration: From RMB 3,800
For a relatively straightforward foreign-invested company setup in Guangzhou, Future Compass company-registration support starts from RMB 3,800.
The scope may include:
- Initial setup assessment
- Company structure consultation
- Business-scope planning
- Registration document preparation and coordination
- Business-licence application support
- Company chops and basic post-registration guidance, where included in the confirmed scope
The final quotation depends on the actual structure. A simple consulting company is different from a trading company, a company owned by an overseas corporate shareholder, a business requiring special licences, or a setup that also needs work-permit planning.
2. The Business Address Is Often the First Real Cost Question
A very common question is: “Do I need to rent an office before I register my company?”
The answer depends on the business activity, the property, the district and the documents that can be provided for registration.
Guangzhou allows more flexible address arrangements than many founders expect. For example, multiple business entities may register at the same address with the written consent of the property owner or authorised operator. Guangzhou also allows certain residential premises to be used for specified low-risk, non-polluting activities when the required conditions and site-use proof are satisfied.
IMPORTANT
This does not mean that every apartment can register every type of company. Do not sign a lease only because a landlord or agent says ‘it should be fine’. Verify the property documents, registered use, intended business scope and registration requirements first.
OPTION A
Traditional Commercial Office
RMB 2,000–3,000/month (50–100 sqm typical) · Monthly payment · 2-month deposit standard
A traditional office is the most straightforward choice when the company will have employees, receive clients regularly, store equipment or products, or needs a permanent physical operating location.
The trade-off is fixed cost. Rent, deposits, fit-out and property-management fees can quickly become a much larger first-year expense than the registration service itself.
✓ Eligible for registration · ✓ Work permit · ✓ Bank account opening · ✗ Not eligible for export tax refund
OPTION B
Serviced Office or Shared Workspace (1-desk registration)
From RMB 1,000/month · Annual payment typical
A serviced office or shared workspace may be more practical for a new founder, a small team or a company testing the China market. The exact cost and whether the address can be used for registration must be confirmed case by case.
✓ Eligible for registration · ✓ Work permit · ✓ Bank account opening · ✗ Not eligible for export tax refund
OPTION C
Qualifying Commercial-Residential or Mixed-Use Property
RMB 2,000–3,000/month (50–100 sqm typical) · Monthly payment · 2-month deposit standard
Some founders prefer a property that can support both daily living and a business setup. This can be practical in the right case, but the marketing label ‘commercial-residential’ or ‘mixed-use apartment’ is not enough by itself.
For residential premises, Guangzhou’s current rule specifically permits certain low-risk activities such as consulting, planning, industrial design, equity investment and consulting-agency activities under stated conditions. Other activities — especially those involving pollution, disturbance, production, storage risks or regulated uses — may not qualify.
✓ Eligible for registration · ✓ Work permit · ✗ Not eligible for export tax refund
Best practice: verify the address before paying a long lease deposit. See our Business Address & Bank Account Support service.
3. Should You Choose the Cheapest Address?
Not automatically. Before choosing an address, ask:
- Will the company actually work from this location?
- Will you hire employees or receive clients?
- Do you need import-export or other regulated functions?
- Do you plan to apply for a work permit through the company?
- Will the property documents support your intended registration and business scope?
The cheapest address can be the wrong choice if it creates a later registration, banking, compliance or relocation problem.
4. If You Plan to Apply for a Work Permit, Plan the Company Structure Carefully
Registering a company does not automatically qualify the founder or any employee for a work permit.
A specific office type also does not, by itself, guarantee or block a work-permit application. The company must be legally established and meet employer requirements, and the foreign applicant must satisfy the applicable eligibility route.
That is why a founder who is setting up a company partly because of a future work-permit plan should assess the company structure, business activity, position, employment arrangement and applicant profile together — rather than treating company registration and immigration status as two unrelated purchases.
WORK PERMIT / WORK-TYPE RESIDENCE PERMIT SUPPORT
From RMB 8,000/person. Eligibility assessment is required before a formal quotation. Final approval is subject to the relevant government authorities; Future Compass does not guarantee approval. Learn about our Work Permit Assessment.
5. Accounting and Tax: Your Main Recurring Compliance Cost
After registration, accounting and tax compliance become recurring obligations. Future Compass currently uses the following starting prices:
Small-Scale Taxpayer Accounting & Tax Filing
From RMB 3,600/year
General VAT Taxpayer Accounting & Tax Filing
From RMB 6,000/year
Under China’s VAT Law effective from 2026, a small-scale taxpayer is generally a taxpayer whose annual taxable VAT sales do not exceed RMB 5 million. A taxpayer with sound accounting that can provide accurate tax information may register as a general taxpayer even below that threshold.
Your accounting fee can vary based on:
- Transaction volume
- Invoice volume
- Bank-account activity
- Payroll and employee count
- Import-export activity
- Tax-refund work
- Overall accounting complexity
Do not assume that ‘RMB 3,600/year’ applies to every company. A low-activity consulting company and an active trading company require very different workloads.
6. Corporate Bank Account Support: From RMB 1,500
A business licence does not automatically mean the company’s banking setup is complete. Depending on the case, support includes document preparation, appointment scheduling, account-opening preparation and on-site accompaniment at the bank.
Bank requirements vary by bank, company profile and applicant. Future Compass can support preparation and coordination, but bank approval should not be presented as guaranteed.
Recommended banks (not exclusive): China Construction Bank (CCB), Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), Bank of China. The most suitable bank depends on your business scope, transaction currency and operational needs — we can advise based on your specific situation.
7. Trading and Import-Export Companies Need a Wider Cost View
If your goal is to buy products in China, export overseas, receive international payments, handle customs, manage VAT or apply for export tax refunds, the cost structure is wider than simple company registration. See our Trading & Import-Export Setup service.
- Import & Export Registration: From RMB 2,500
- Export Tax Refund Service: From RMB 6,000/year
Trading companies may also require more accounting, invoicing and compliance work. The correct setup should be designed around how the business will actually trade, not only around obtaining a licence.

9. Why a Very Low Registration Quote May Not Be Your Real First-Year Cost
You may find very low company-registration quotations in China. That does not automatically mean the quotation is wrong. The key question is what the quotation includes.
A low registration quote may exclude:
- Registered-address costs
- Accounting and tax filing
- Bank-account support
- Work-permit support
- Import-export registration
- Special licences
- Translation, notarization or apostille
- Other third-party costs
Instead of asking only, “What is your registration fee?”
Ask: “What is my realistic first-year setup and operating cost, and exactly what is included?”
10. How to Control Your First-Year Setup Cost
- 1Define what the company will actually do.
- 2Decide whether a work-permit plan needs to be assessed.
- 3Confirm the likely tax and accounting structure.
- 4Verify the registered-address solution before paying a lease deposit.
- 5Understand which costs are one-time, annual, monthly or optional.
- 6Only then sign leases, pay deposits and start the registration process.
This sequence helps avoid a common problem: making one cheap decision early that creates a more expensive change later.
